Our elementary school program offers different ways for teachers to introduce the subject of donation in an age-appropriate manner while reinforcing general health concepts. Donate Life Northwest’s current elementary school programming utilizes our own Debbie Doll and the Pass It On Video and resource kit.
Debbie Doll is a child-size fabric doll with removable organs and tissues. An Donate Life Northwest trained speaker presents information while using the doll as a visual prop. This is a fun way for students to learn about healthy bodies and the functions of organs and tissues. Presentations are adapted to the needs and education levels of the students. The Debbie Doll presentation does not address the topic of death or the advanced concepts of transplantation.
Pass It On I is an award-winning video that was developed specifically for children ages 9-13 and deals with the subject of organ donation and transplantation honestly, but in a way that is non-threatening and kid-friendly. The video features legendary Dallas Cowboy Coach Tom Landry and uses sports teams and replacement players as the story line. A “spokeskid” narrates the video in a classroom setting that incorporates Lisa's story, the story of a 13-year-old liver-lung transplant recipient, and the mother of a 16-year-old who donated his organs after a tragic accident. Health and wellness issues are incorporated throughout the video.
